All Monterey County residents are invited to participate in Slowfiber's 2021 Fashion Revolution Week Virtual Fashion Show, launching online on April 19. All ages and skill levels are welcome!

If you're a from-scratch garment maker (using yarn or cloth), upcycling garment maker, or visible garment mender, please submit a photo or video of your proudest accomplishment from 2020-21 for the show. Application deadline is April 1. View details here.

Tree of Hearts - Commemorating One Year of the Pandemic in Monterey

In remembrance of those lost to Covid-19 and in appreciation of all essential frontline workers, the City of Monterey staff will hang 500 hearts on the magnolia tree in Friendly Plaza (580 Pacific Street).

March 13 - April 14, Monterey residents are encouraged to stop by, bring a permanent marker, and write the name of someone you are remembering or appreciating on one of the hearts. The hearts will be collected on April 14, made into a framed collage, and hung in the City Council Chamber.

New Public Art in Jeffers Plaza

Monterey Conference Center has installed new public art for all of us to enjoy in Jeffers Plaza, an outdoor space connecting the Conference Center with Portola Hotel and Spa. The plaza is named after Robinson Jeffers (1887-1962), an influential local poet and icon of the environmental movement.

The bronze sculptures of Jeffers were created by local artists Will Pettee and Carol Matranga Courtney . We encourage you to go in person and check it out the next time you're in Downtown Old Monterey. Monterey Conference Center is located at 1 Portola Plaza.

City of Monterey Parking Permits for Residents 2021

The City of Monterey offers a parking program which allows Monterey residents, displaying the proper decal permit, a maximum of two hours of free parking, per day, per parking facility. The decals are honored in the Downtown East and West Garage, (at Franklin & Tyler), the Waterfront Attendant Lot (at Washington & Del Monte), and the Cannery Row Garage (at Foam & Prescott).

A resident parking permit decal can now be obtained online. Fee is $20 and the permit is valid for 12 months.

Om Studios: Gentle Yoga Series Begins March 15

Om Studios' next 6-week Gentle Yoga Series begins on Monday, March 15. While Om classes continue daily in the gardens of Cooper-Molera Adobe in Monterey, this class will be held in Jewell Park in Pacific Grove. Fee is $69. Space is limited.

If you're just beginning (or re-beginning) your journey into yoga, this class is for you. Om Studios owner Lindsay Wetterau will guide you in building your yoga practice from the ground up.
