California American Water is continuing construction of the Monterey Pipeline, a 7-mile transmission main that will bring new sources of water to the Monterey Peninsula. This project will involve nighttime construction work that may make noise.

Nighttime construction is planned in downtown Monterey from the intersection of Pacific and Madison and along Polk, Hartnell, Webster and Munras Streets up to the intersection of Fremont and Abrego. The nighttime work involves excavating trenches in existing pavement for installation of a new water pipeline. The contractor will try to keep noise levels low, but you may experience some inconvenience.

Construction is expected to begin the week of September 25, 2017 and will last approximately two months for the entire project to be completed. Construction hours are 7pm-6am. Affected streets will be closed to through traffic or reduced to one lane.

For any questions or feedback related to the project, please call our pipeline hotline at 831-646-3297. The contractor, Garney Construction, may also be reached at 831-901-3483.

Clone of Monterey Photo Contest 2017 Call for Entries

Posted on September 8th, 2017 by omba

The City of Monterey welcomes photo submissions in their first city-wide photo contest. Participants are encouraged to submit photos in any of the three categories:

1) environment - sky, beach, mountain, park and wildlife
2) architecture - urban design, cityscapes, landmarks and infrastructure
3) culture & community - people of all ages involved in sports, art activities and enjoying special events.

"We wish to showcase Monterey - the lifestyle, culture, diversity, history, natural resources and scenic beauty," said City Manager Mike McCarthy. "A photo contest is a fun way to bring attention to so many great parts of our City, and we are looking forward to all the entries."

All photos entered must be taken within Monterey city limits. Photos outside of the City of Monterey will be disqualified, as will low resolution images that cannot be reproduced clearly in printed materials.

There are two ways to win: 1) People’s Choice, decided by an online vote (open to all community members) and 2) Judges’ Choice, chosen by a panel of local photographers. Contestants will have their photos displayed at a special City Council presentation, where winners will be presented. All contest entries are eligible to be featured in citywide publications of print and electronic media with photo credit.

Anyone is qualified to enter. Entries must be received by December 31, 2017. Please visit the contest website for complete details and to enter.

Contestants and members of the public are invited to cast their votes online to select the "People's Choice" awards for the City of Monterey Photo Contest in January 2018.
