Old Monterey District Blog

Please read update at end of post. It's an unprecedented time out in the world right now, so we at Alvarado Street Brewery & Grill wanted to let everyone know that in addition to following all CDC guidelines we are ramping up our already stringent hygiene and sanitation practices. We are confident that you can feel safe if you're healthy enough to visit us and have an experience at our pub. If you'd rather not risk it, we're setting up systems to allow curbside pickup of food and beer, which we'll announce in the coming days.

Company-wide we're encouraging social distancing, no physical contact, and have been washing hands and sanitizing like there's no tomorrow. You'll find us disinfecting non-stop (tables, door handles, menus, restrooms, any and all surfaces) and handling glassware properly (not touching the top part of the glass). Our production brewery mandates staff to use personal protective equipment and nitrile gloves when handling sanitary equipment and performing brewhouse / cellar duties. Brewery employees who can work from home will be doing so, and we have restricted all work related travel, participation in events, and encouraging to our staff to refrain from air travel, large gatherings and the like so that we're able to do our part in the effort to mitigate the spread of this virus.

Alvarado Street Brewery & Grill is located at 426 Alvarado Street in Downtown Old Monterey. Our phone number is 831-655-BEER.

Update from Alvarado Street Brewery & Grill on March 16, 2020: After much consideration, we have decided to restrict our dine-in business. It will be take-away only for food and beer, 12pm-7pm daily, for now. As we expand curbside options we will let you know those details. So give us a call, and we'll get you fed and some coldies in your fridge! Eat and drink well as we're hunkered down for awhile.

Founded by the Culcasi Family in 1980, the award-winning Rosine’s Restaurant has reached a milestone of 40 years in business.

In 1980, Jim Sr. and Rosine Culcasi along with their children founded Rosine’s Restaurant at the Del Monte Shopping Center, serving delicious, homemade food in generous portions with friendly customer service. After five years, they relocated the restaurant to 434 Alvarado Street in Downtown Old Monterey.

Since its founding in 1980, the family has happily shared in the work, from cooking and baking to serving and greeting. An instant success, Rosine's established a reputation with satisfied customers who enjoyed their delicious homemade soups, hearty meals, homemade fresh pies and sumptuous array of delicious homemade, award-winning cakes.

When Jim Sr. retired in 1994, Jim Jr. took the helm and now reigns as CEO. You can still find Jim Sr. mingling with customers, and you never know when Rosine will be in the kitchen making her scrumptious meat loaf and fruit pies. Daughter Renee left in 1986, and authored a cookbook featuring some of the restaurant’s most beloved recipes. The book is currently out of stock, but the family hopes to re-print the book later this year. Daughter Annette helped run the restaurant for many years, and in 2017 left to pursue her own ventures.

The third generation of the Culcasi family – Chris, John and Michael – have all worked in the restaurant and John and Michael are still working there. John rose to the position of general manager and works closely with his father, Jim Jr., to run the restaurant. Jim’s wife, Susan, is instrumental in building Rosine’s presence through its website and social media, networking, and customer relations.
