Face Coverings Required in Public in Monterey County

The Monterey County Health Officer has announced that all people over age 12 must wear face masks or face coverings in public beginning at 12:01am on Thursday, April 30. (Parents and guardians please note: children age 2 and under MUST NOT wear face coverings.)

Reusable cloth face masks are encouraged. The use of medical masks, such as N-95 respirators and surgical masks, are discouraged because there is a shortage of those in the marketplace and health care workers and first responders need them.

Food Assistance in Monterey During Shelter-in-Place Order

The City of Monterey has coordinated with the National Guard to distribute MREs (Meals, Ready-to-Eat) to those in need. Each individual will receive a 3 day supply of non-perishable meals at El Estero Park every 3 days for the duration of the shelter-in-place order.

Several non-profits are also providing meal assistance at the Monterey Skate Park at El Estero (Saturdays, 9am), Window on the Bay (Sundays, 8am), and the Recreation Trail parking lot across from the Naval Postgraduate School (Mon-Fri, 11:15am & Sun, 11am)​. The Monterey Food Bank has opened additional food distributions that it posts on its Facebook page ​, or you can phone them at 831-758-1523.

People may always call 2-1-1 for assistance with food or other services.

Monterey Public Library would like you to know that their building at 625 Pacific Street may be temporarily closed, but there are still a lot of library resources available to you online. They include access to the Northern California Digital Library on OverDrive, the New York Times, Hoopla's eBooks and more, homework help from Brainfuse, and virtual programs such as free yoga classes. Youth Arts Collective Is Still Active Online!

It’s been over 20 days since Youth Arts Collective (YAC) had to shutter our studios in Old Monterey, but we didn't disappear. We moved YAC's program to an online clubhouse to keep students engaged with their art, each other, and their mentors. We're also starting a new set of weekly art prompts and we invite the public to join in. Stay tuned on our website - it starts this week and it’s going to be fun! All ages - artists and non-artists - are welcome.

Om Studios Offers Online Yoga, Pilates, and Barre Classes

Om Studios is now offering yoga, Pilates, and barre classes online, live-streaming your favorite Om Studios teachers! Join us daily on Instagram Live to continue your practice during the shelter-in-place order.

Since Om Studios' classes are being given free for now, we encourage you to support our studio and teachers. We're accepting donations through Venmo and PayPal. Any help is appreciated so we can keep our business afloat and continue to offer classes.

Food for Children During Monterey County's Shelter-in-Place Order

During Monterey County's shelter-in-place order, children 18 and younger can access food through a Monterey County school site - no questions asked. Here is a map of all the food distribution sites in Monterey County.

In the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District, beginning March 30, the district is offering grab and go breakfasts and lunches at 16 school sites, 10am-12pm. Children do not need to be present - a parent or guardian can pick up the meals to take home to their kids.
