Knitting Lessons: Make a Hat at Slowfiber
This event has already passed
Slowfiber presents a class teaching you the next steps of knitting as you make a hat! You'll learn how to use a circular needle, DPNs, and work decreases from instructor Karin Forno. Class runs for four Saturdays, 4pm-5:30pm, August 31 - September 21. Fee is $80 - register here.
Class Description
Get ready to move away from knitting with straight needles! You are going to make a hat using the continental method (carrying the yarn in your left hand) and you'll learn to knit in the round using a 16” circular needle, follow a simple pattern, do basic ribbing, use two decreases, and successfully use the Magic Loop method so you can close that pesky opening at the crown. All are necessary for a basic hand knit hat.
Knitting in the round using DPNs (double pointed needles) and using two circulars will also be covered.
Class Prerequisites
You must be able to knit, purl, and cast on. You will have the luxury of homework so be prepared to set time aside each day to do a little. The trick to a successful knitting life is repetition and practice.
