Slowfiber presents a workshop led by Lyn Sandberg entitled The Upcycled Quilt: A Hand Stitching Class Using the Siddhe People's Style of Construction Commonly Known as Kawandi. This class will be held on Saturday, April 20, 12pm-5pm. Please register on the Slowfiber website. Fee is $80.
Join Lyn for this exploratory design-as-you-go piecing opportunity. Using upcycled, pre-owned, and "what's on hand" is the nature of this process. You will work on a small 18x24 inch area, making in possible to finish your project within the 4 hour class time. All layers - piecing, edging and the quilting - are worked at once.
This style of construction asks you to use what you have on hand in your cloth collection or maybe your garment donation pile. Participants are asked to avoid purchasing cloth for this process to get the full experience.
Lyn Sandberg was taught quilting by an eccentric pair of hillbilly aunts beginning at 8 years old. Her quilting career spans 50 years as teacher, artist, and designer. Her quilts have been shown at the national level and she has works in the permanent collection of the American Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky.
