Applique and Embroidery on Wool for Beginners at Slowfiber
This event has already passed
Slowfiber presents a workshop for beginners about applique and embroidery on wool taught by Lisa Ruminski on Thursday, February 8, 11am-4pm. Fee is $65. Please register on the Slowfiber website.
The workshop provides an introduction to wool applique, including the types of tools, fusing techniques, and basic embroidery stitches that one needs to create uniquely beautiful objects from pre-made patterns or your own hand-dawn designs. You can add these finished wool illustrations to everything. The wool medium is very forgiving and non-fraying - perfect for learning embroidery and applique techniques.
In the spirit of Sue Spargo or Laura Wasilowski, this wool applique technic goes on with a simple raw edge and hand stitching. It virtually disappears into the soft fabric. We add layers, colors, and decorative stitching with wool, cotton, or silk threads. Your project is ready to become a needle case, pin cushion, book-cover, garment, or cushion embellishment.
