Portola Hotel Reopens for Essential Travel

On December 16, 2020, Portola Hotel & Spa opened our doors for the first time since March, and we are thrilled! Due to current travel restrictions, hotel accommodations are available for essential travelers only. We are grateful for every first responder working hard and taking care of our community during this critical time.

We look forward to welcoming leisure travel in the New Year, and we hope everyone continues to travel responsibly. Thank you to all essential workers and businesses for your continued efforts in battling the pandemic.

Recycled and Organic Yarns at Slowfiber

Are you planning to do some knitting or crocheting over the holidays? Slowfiber has gotten in a bunch of new supplies for you, including recycled cashmere, wool, and an organic cotton and yak blend (really!). These yarns are in colors we actually wear and made from fibers that give you bragging rights...and warmth.

East Village Cafe Opens

We are happy to announce that East Village Cafe is open under new ownership! Serving up crazy good coffee, tea, authentic chai, and food to-go, this great little community spot at 498 Washington Street is now operated by local resident Ryan Lama. East Village Cafe is open daily for take-out, 7am-3pm.

Monterey State of the City Address, January 14

The City of Monterey presents the 2020 State of the City address on Thursday, Jan. 14 at 8am-9am. Featuring Mayor Clyde Roberson and City Manager Hans Uslar, this event will be held via Zoom. Rosine's will be open 11am-4pm on Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day. The rest of the time, we're open Mon-Fri, 11am-8pm, and Sat-Sun, 9am-8pm, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner and dessert to-go.

New Monterey County Stay at Home Order Begins December 13 at 10pm

Monterey County Health Director Edward Moreno has issued a new stay at home order for Monterey County that will go into effective on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 10pm and extend until Jan. 11 at 6am. (This order may be extended depending on ICU capacity.)

As of Sunday at 10pm, restaurants and food service establishments will be restricted to take-out and delivery service only (no outdoor dining); all retail stores will operate at no more than 20% capacity; and barbershops, hair salons, and personal services will close (this includes nail, skin care, and massage). Outdoor exercise classes can continue to operate. Please note that the 10pm curfew remains in effect.

We encourage all residents to continue to support small, locally owned businesses during this difficult time. Alvarado Street Brewery's Mai Tai Wins Bronze Medal

We at Alvarado Street Brewery were incredibly honored to receive our fourth medal in the past six years for our Mai Tai PA at the 2020 Great American Beer Festival. Usually we enter Mai Tai into the International-style Pale Ale category but changed it up this year into the American Strong Pale Ale category, where it was awarded a Bronze.
