The History of the Chautauqua Movement and its Connection to Pacific Grove

The Native Daughters of the Golden West presents a talk by Jean Anton entitled "The History of the Chautauqua Movement and its Connection to Pacific Grove” on Monday, July 13, 7pm-8pm, at historic Casa Serrano. A $10 donation is suggested. RSVP to Wendy Brickman at 831-594-1500.

About the Talk

In 1881 a large board and batten barn-like building was constructed at the corner of 16th and Grove Street in Pacific Grove. Learn how this building became part of a nationwide cultural movement and why PG was called the “Chautauqua of the West.”

About Jean Anton

Jean Anton is a retired history and home economics teacher who has lived in Pacific Grove since 1968. She is the Chairperson of the Friends of Chautauqua Hall and is active in the Heritage Society of PG. She also serves as the Chairperson of the city’s Historic Resources Committee.
