MIIS Hosts Author & Photographer Matika Wilbur

The Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey presents an evening with acclaimed social documentarian and photographer Matika Wilbur on Thursday, May 4, 5:30pm-7:30pm in the Irvine Auditorium on the MIIS campus. This event is free and open to the public.

Matika Wilbur, a member of the Swinomish and Tulalip Tribes, will be discussing her new book, Project 562: Changing the Way We See Native America.

The only effort since the 1930s to photograph people from all Native American Tribal Nations, and the only such endeavor by a Native artist, Wilbur spent ten years traveling 600,000 miles across 50 states - from Seminole country (now known as the Everglades) to Inuit territory (now known as the Bering Sea) - to meet, interview, and photograph hundreds of Indigenous people. Project 562 is a photographic and narrative celebration of contemporary Native American life and cultures alongside an in-depth examination of issues that Native people face.
