This event has already passed

On Friday, May 20, 4pm-5:30pm, Monterey Public Library invites you to join us as we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage month with an online screening of the haunting documentary To Climb a Gold Mountain, followed by a Q&A with the film’s Director and Executive Producer, Dr. Alex Azmi. This is a free program, but please register in advance here.

To Climb a Gold Mountain tells the true stories of three women from Asian descent who lived in America over the span of 125 years. Each woman fought in her own way to make a difference. Each woman represents a distinct theme of struggle and triumph, and ushers in another story leading up to the present time.

Alex Azmi is a filmmaker with interest in documentaries that deals with social and cultural issues. Alex is currently involved in several projects including short films and other feature-length documentaries.

This program takes place on Zoom, or participants may join by phone. Registration closes an hour before the program. The Zoom access information will be sent to registered participants shortly before the program begins. Use of video camera and level of participation is determined by each person.
