This event has already passed

For Pride Month we celebrate, raise awareness, and promote equality for the LGBTQ community. On Friday, June 14, 1pm-3pm, come to Monterey Public Library to watch the documentary The Lavender Scare, a remarkable film about the LGBTQ rights movement narrated by Glenn Close.

Run time: 75 minutes. This program is free and open to all. No registration required.

About the Film

In 1953, thousands of Americans lost their government jobs based on their sexual orientation when President Eisenhower declared them a security threat. This film tells the story of a brave man, Frank Kameny, a Harvard-trained astronomer, who became the first person to fight his dismissal. His attempts to regain his job evolved into a lifelong fight for the rights of the LGBTQ community.
