After being called off last year, the tree lighting ceremony at Colton Hall returned earlier this month. It wasn't as boisterous of a production as it had been in years past, but it was celebration nonetheless.
Amidst the uncertainties of another Covid winter, people from across the Monterey community came together in the simple act of observing a time honored tradition. It doesn’t have to be a big production when the moment is a genuine act of appreciation.
2021 didn't end up being the year many of us expected. We dreamt of a massive party in the streets and months of life without a care in the world. We did not get that, but we can take solace in traditions and find gratitude for what we have.
Happy holidays everyone. Here's hoping that we finally get that party in the streets in 2022, but do not lose touch with the simple things that held us together through difficult times.
