MIIS Lecture: Understanding Power in a Nuclear Age

MIIS presents WorldViews: Tools of Change, a lecture series featuring MIIS faculty members discussing smart strategies needed to address mounting global threats. On Wednesday, May 9, 6pm-7pm, Mary Kay Park and David Schmerler will address Understanding Power in a Nuclear Age in the McGowan Building, Room 102. Tickets are $10 each - advance purchase is recommended.

Dr. Mary Kay Park manages the Los Angeles station of a top-rated non-profit broadcasting company, FEBC-Korea. As a global media professional, she leads with intercultural communications competence and a focused perspective around culture and media. She has a passion for reducing marginality and increasing mutuality across the globe. In addition, she's also successfully assisted numerous fortune 100 companies improve their intercultural communication capacity. Driven by the urgency of creating a more just and loving global community, she believes that the power of narrative communication can lead the way in reshaping our global community towards greater human flourishing, one narrative thread at a time.

David Schmerler is a Research Associate at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies in Monterey. He holds an MA in Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies from MIIS and has been featured in numerous articles for his expertise on North Korea including The New York Times and The Washington Post.
