Every other Tuesday is $2 Tuesdays at the Stanton Center Theatre where you can gather with other art minded people and share in the experience of early cinema together.

Every Thursday at 6pm, chess matches are played between the tumbling piles of books at Old Capitol Books. Come join us for a relaxed game, a chat, or a wee peek at a nearby page. Beginners are more than welcome. All books are 25% off during events.

We know that some of you have been fantasizing about gathering in dark parking lots. With strangers. To read poetry. Let Old Capitol Books help you with that.

We hold monthly Poetry Open Mic Nights on the first Friday of every month at 9pm in the parking lot behind our building (at 499 Calle Principal). Hosted by Brian Sheffield.

Monterey Museum of Art presents a Free Family Fun Day on Saturday, August 5, 11am-3pm. Drop by the Museum for a fun-filled afternoon exploring materials and abstraction in art, inspired by our exhibition The Bruton Sisters: Modernism in the Making .

Featured art activities will include: abstract mosaics, modernist collage, and painting decorative flowerpots.

Sovino Wine Bar and Merchant presents a Paint and Sip Class ! This afternoon, local artist and retired art teacher Bunny Paivine will be teaching an easy-to-follow painting class. You’ll take home your own 11 x 14 canvas painting. Fee is $40, advance registration required. All materials and instruction are included. Wine is extra.

On the first Sunday of every month, 6pm-8pm, Old Capitol Books and Boukra Press host a poetry writing workshop. All levels are welcome. This is two hours of facilitated and structured poetry writing for only $10. Feedback given by trained and published poets.
