Monterey Bay Poetry Consortium: Readings by Eike Waltz and Garland Thompson

This event has already passed

On the second Sunday of each month, come to Old Capitol Books to see the poets of the Monterey Bay Poetry Consortium. This afternoon's featured poets are Eike Waltz and Garland Thompson, who will read from their work. There is a suggested donation of $5.

Eike Waltz enjoyed a twofold career: first, as a ballet dancer in his native Germany and then as a US-based international engineering designer and electronics industry consultant. After the events of 9/11, he became politically active and began to write and perform about what he saw and heard. Participating in poetry slams, he found he had to have the discipline to write about a subject and perform the subject matter in 3 minutes. He also found that, by reading to a much younger Slam generation, he had to rediscover himself.

Garland Thompson is an award-winning poet, actor, playwright, sound and video designer, filmmaker, producer, and director. He currently hosts and produces the longest running open mic and poetry slam in Monterey County, the Rubber Chicken Poetry Slam & Open Mic at East Village Coffee Lounge. From 1997 to 2007, Garland produced the legendary West Coast Championship Poetry Slam at the Henry Miller Library in Big Sur. In 2020, Garland’s new book, Garland at 18: New Book of Poems, will be published by Old Hat Press in Los Angeles.
