Celebrate PARK(ing) Day at Parklets in Old Monterey

This event has already passed

On Friday, September 20, the City of Monterey will participate in PARK(ing) Day, an annual event that transforms parking spaces into temporary parklets. These miniature parks will feature green spaces, outdoor seating, and fun and educational booths from various City departments.

From 11am to 3pm, PARK(ing) Day visitors can relax and enjoy a takeout lunch in a parklet, or have coffee and donuts with a police officer. Discuss gardening and landscaping with Parks staff and local nonprofits and students. Meanwhile, Recreation and Monterey Sports Center will also be on hand to provide physical fitness education and challenges, play fun games, and share their upcoming fall and winter programs. Sign up for a library card and pick up a book from City librarians, and read in one of our miniature parks.

Celebrated on the third Friday in September, PARK(ing) Day celebrates parks and public spaces in cities across the country, and raises awareness of the need for more pedestrian-friendly spaces in our urban areas. The initiative also promotes civic pride and invites residents to think about how we can transform our local urban environment.

Please note: PARK(ing) Day will temporarily close several spaces on Alvarado Street between Pearl Street and Franklin Street.
