Union Yoga presents an Integrative Pelvic Floor Function Workshop taught by Jill Willett on Saturday, June 8, 2:30pm-4:30pm. There will be a second and related Prenatal Workshop held the same day, 12pm-2pm.
Union Yoga wants to help women claim the power of the pelvic floor! This is the second half of a two-part workshop emphasizing the pelvis which includes (but is not limited to) the postpartum body, low back pain, sexual health, and correcting and healing imbalances in a balanced, healthy way.
This workshop will teach participants to squat, bend, lift, extend, and twist in life with a pregnant and postpartum or beyond body. Basic human movements can be challenging as your body is shape-shifting through life. By utilizing strategies and modifications with movement we can prevent compensations that lead to injury and harmful movement patterns.
For moms, the last trimester of pregnancy and what we call the fourth trimester (after the birth of one’s baby) is very stressful to the physical body yet the demands of life do not change. It is vital that women learn how to move in ways that support their return to structural alignment and minimize the discomfort and injury associated with this transitional period.
As women we carry groceries, strollers, car seats, babes, their older siblings, heavy purses, and even surfboards. This workshop introduces the tools to empower yourself with awareness about your structure and hormones, and how to move thoughtfully with awareness of pelvic floor health. Participants will leave with the knowledge of how to recognize and correct imbalances preventing potential future injury.
