Joseph Boston Store
The doors of Joseph Boston Store are closed, but we are currently selling many of our locally made products through the website of Monterey Bay Food Tours. Please check out the online store and help support the work of the Historic Garden League!
The Joseph Boston Store, managed by the all-volunteer Historic Garden League, offers merchandise themed to the 1850s, unique history books and locally-made artisan products such as soaps, elderberry cordials and syrups, jams, honey, olive oils and vinegars, and teas. Throughout December, the Joseph Boston Store is known for its stunning Victorian and vintage decorations. Proceeds from the store support the preservation of the historic gardens of Monterey.
The Joseph Boston Store is located at Casa del Oro, a California Historic Landmark. This two-story limestone rock and adobe building was the first general store in Monterey and housed the first safe. Local legend claims that miners returning from the gold fields often stored their assets there, which led to the designation “Casa Del Oro” or "House of Gold." Today, visitors can still find the original safe and Joseph Boston’s desk in the store.
